It was Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonalds who once famously said: “Look after the customer and the business will take care of itself.”
The fact that McDonalds today accounts for 47% of the fast food market in America (there are 83 McDonalds in Manhattan alone), proves that Kroc’s ideology has brought about much in terms of business success. However, Morgan Spurlock’s powerful and eye-opening film, Super Size Me (made in 2004) answers that very question.
The Facts and Figures
One of the most pertinent aspects of Super Size Me is the facts and figures which litter it. These include the most worrying statistic, that nearly 1 million Americans are obese. Moreover, more than 50% of Americans get no form of exercise, coupled with the frighteningly high numbers of obesity-related deaths per year – which stands at 400,000.
