Market Efficiency Test

Adhesive tape products, also known as pressure sensitive tapes, PSA tapes ,or sticky tapes, consist of a pressure sensitive adhesive coated onto a backing material. The adhesion properties of PSA tapes, like the name suggests, are proportional to the level of pressure applied. Adhesive tape products have a wide range of applications, especially in the packaging industry.

Some manufacturers and buyers of tapes test their adhesive properties by arcane methods, including measuring the amount of cardboard ripped by adhesives or trying to lift telephones with sticky tape. This is why it is important for businesses involved in the adhesive tape products market to have the necessary equipment to perform adhesion testing, including a peel tester, a loop tack tester, and a shear tester.

Shear Testing for Adhesive Tape Products

One of the main tape adhesion testing methods is the shear test. Shear Testing is done to determine the cohesive or internal strength of an adhesive. The test involves sticking adhesive tape strips between 3 and 10 inches long and 1 inch wide to stainless steel plates which are then placed on a universal tester. 500 gram loads are then hung from the other ends of the adhesive tape strips in order to exert a constant force upon the adhesive.
